About Kathryn
KATHRYN HERRERA, L.Ac. MSTOM
Kathryn Herrera, L.Ac, MSTOM is a licensed acupuncturist and board certified herbalist. She is nationally certified as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by the NCCAOM and holds a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in New York City, where she graduated with Honors from a rigorous four-year program that included 3000+ hours of didactic and hands on training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Western Biomedicine and nutrition. She is also a full-spectrum doula (DONA & CARRIAGE HOUSE BIRTH), which complements her passion for fertility and reproductive health. She focuses on helping her patients understand why discomfort, illness, or disease manifest in their lives and how to help them heal in a balanced and holistic way. Kathryn's practice focuses mainly on women's health, including reproductive health, fertility support, pre, and post-natal care, gynecological disorders, and general internal medicine. She has also had success with and is interested in working with depression & anxiety disorders, addiction recovery, stress reduction, and pain & musculoskeletal disorders.
Kathryn practices Traditional Chinese Medicine and Applied Channel Theory Palpation developed by world renowned acupuncturist, herbalist, teacher and author Dr. Wang Ju-Yi of Beijing, China. She was invited to study directly under Dr. Wang at Hu Guo Si Chinese Medicine Hospital and at his private clinic at the Applied Channel Theory & Research Center in Beijing, China where she focused on channel palpation and diagnosis. Kathryn has also had comprehensive training and clinical experience as an acupuncturist at New York University Langone Medical Center – Initiative for Women with Disabilities (IWD) where she worked with a variety of cases including Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis among others; Housing Works Community Acupuncture Clinic (NYC) ; and St. John’s Riverside Hospital (NYC).
Additionally, Kathryn has participated as a volunteer acupuncturist and herbalist in medical missions to the Barbara Ford Peace Center: Integrative Health Project Clinic in Quiche, Guatemala. During each week-long mission the team treated over 1,000 patients in Quiche as well as set up mobile clinics in other local areas. kathryn is passionate about volunteering and continues to work with domestic abuse survivors and those struggling with substance use disorders. In her free time Kathryn enjoys traveling, spending time with family & friends, theatre, singing, reading and all things Springsteen.
